Funeral services for Hernand "Gene" E. Wilson, 61 of Vacaville, CA. will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Trinity Baptist Church.

 

The Rev. Milton Steck of the Trinity Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

 

Mr. Wilson died Dec. 17, 1993, at David Grant Medical Center on Travis Air Force Base following a long battle with cancer.

 

Born Jan. 22, 1932 in Dancy, Miss., Mr. Wilson resided in Vacaville for 26 years. He came to Travis Air Force Base in 1967. Mr. Wilson served with distinction in the Korean and Vietnam wars and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for valor, the Purple Heart, and numerous other medals and citations.

 

Mr. Wilson retired in 1977 as a master sergeant and began a handyman business in Vacaville. Mr. Wilson is remembered by his family and friends as a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, popular handyman, and avid fisherman.

 

Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Maria; mother, Mildred; sons, Robert, John and Bill; daughters, Liz Cartwright, Carolyn Fore, and Suzanne Wilson, all of California; brothers, Harold, William and Donnie, all of Mississippi, and John of Louisiana; sisters, Melba Andrews and Carolyn Dewberry, both of Mississippi; 11 grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

 

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today in McCune Garden Chapel in Vacaville.
