Dennis C. Coombs

September 29, 1943 - April 11, 1992



Layton, UT. Graveside services for Dennis C. Coombs, formerly of Sturgis, were held August 08, 1992, at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Sturgis. The Rev. Brian Rafferty, Burr Oak United Methodist Church, officiated. The Sturgis VFW provided military honors.

 

He died April 11, 1992 of cancer. He was born September 29, 1943, in Sturgis, a son of Walter and Angelyn Coombs.

 

He married Virginia Mao in Belleville, IL.

 

He graduated from Sarasota High School, Sarasota, FL. and Troy State University, AL. While attending college he played varsity football. He received a masters degree from the University of New Mexico.

 

He was a Major in the U.S. Air Force and retired in 1986 with 21 years of service. He served tours in Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, Alaska, New Mexico, Illinois and Utah. During his Southeast Asia tour he served with the 21st SOS in 1970 - 1971. He received several military medals.

 

After retiring from the service he was the aviation planner for the Wasetch Front Regional Council, Bountiful, for four years.

 

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Order of Daedallans and the American Helicopter Society.

 

Surviving are his wife, his mother, his children, Denise House, San Antonio, TX., Cade D. Coombs, Lancaster, CA., Tavia Wendlandt, Austin, TX. and Shawn Thoreson, Layton, one brother, Christopher W., Coombs, Tallahassee, FL. and one grandson, Kyle House.
