Owen Leroy Clark 

 

Owen Leroy Clark was born in Meadville, Mississippi on March 11, 1921, and died on September 16, 2009 in Lubbock, Texas.

 

Owen and his late wife, Juanita, had three children. Owen married Thelma Mize in 1991 and they enjoyed 17 years together. Clark, who had received his flight training in 1942 at Lubbock Army Air Field (later Reese Air Force Base), retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel. Owen was known for his devout Christian faith, his love for his family, his pride in America, his military career, his generosity and his community service. Owen was a long time member of St. Luke's Methodist Church.

 

The family will receive visitors at Rix Funeral Directors at 1901 Broadway this evening from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 19, 2009 at St. Luke's Methodist Church (3708 45th St, Lubbock) with burial to follow at Resthaven Cemetery.

 

Clark entered the military on January 17, 1940 at age 18 years and 10 months. He taught flight school, ferried planes during WWII and served in Korea. He flew many kinds of cargo and transport planes, three kinds of helicopters, as well as B-47's and B-52's. He was the recipient of many honors and citations. After Korea, he received a degree from Texas Tech and was employed there in the agriculture department.

 

Family members left behind are three children, Carol Clark Daniel and husband Lloyd of Tomball, Curtis Wayne Clark and wife Susan of Dallas and Catherine Clark Frazey and husband David of Decatur; grandchildren, Lauren Clark and Mitchell Clark of Dallas; a sister, Helen Ruth Posey of Farmers Branch; and a brother, Billy Ray Clark and wife Helen of Tyler. His stepchildren are Bob Maze and wife Charlotte of Lubbock and Danny Mize and wife Peggy of Amarillo; plus many step-grandchildren and a host of friends.

 

Memorial donations can be made to Texas Boys Ranch in Lubbock; to the Rick Mize Scholarship Fund at Lubbock Christian University; or American Cancer Society.
