Harry Winfield Bryant, 81, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015.

 

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Abilene Funeral Home Chapel of Hope, 3349 N. 12th Street. Dr. Toby Henson will be officiating under the direction of Abilene Funeral Home.

 

Mr. Bryant was born April 25, 1933, in Rochester, New Hampshire to Ernest and Albertine Gagne Bryant. Harry had three brothers and two sisters. He graduated from Spaulding High School and was raised as a Catholic. Mr. Bryant was married to Donalee Wittkopf (Bryant) from 1952 until 1973, having six children. He married Winnie Knapp (Bryant) in 1980, and they enjoyed 24 years together until her passing in 2004.

 

Harry joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950, serving his country honorably for nearly 23 years, retiring in 1973. He did three consecutive tours in Vietnam from 1970 until 1973 as a helicopter firefighter. Harry received a Bronze Star for Valor, the Air Medal for meritorious service in 1971, and the Air Force Commendation Medal in 1973.

 

He enjoyed being around family, visiting friends, reading and watching western movies. Survivors include two daughters, Diana Notgrass and husband, Carl of Clyde, and Joana Bryant (Mitch Ballard) of Abilene; three sons, Steven Bryant and wife, Kim of Abilene, Coy Bryant and wife, Jackie of Merkel, and Jeff Bryant and wife, Jill of Escondido, Ca.; stepson, Robert Bryant and wife, Eva of Colebrook, NH; step daughter, Melody Brown and husband Larry of Rochester, NH; sister, Mary Caplette of Rochester, NH; brother, Robert Bryant of Salt Lake City; 17 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

 

Mr. Bryant was preceded in death by his parents, his two wives, two brothers, one sister, a son, Paul Bryant and a granddaughter, Christy Bryant.

 

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, before the memorial service, at 10 High Life Circle. Burial service will be 10 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2015, at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, 7457 West Lake Road. Full military honors are expected from Dyess AFB.
