EDWARD DENIS BRADY

Final Flight on June 23, 2014

Edward Denis Brady, USAF

October 14, 1941 - June 23, 2014

Edward Denis Brady, 72, passed away on Monday, June 23 at the Soldiers Home in Holyoke. Ed, son of the late Edward H. and Jennie (Falter) Brady, was born on October 14, 1941, in Bronx, NY.

He was a longtime resident of Wilbraham and East Longmeadow before moving to Brimfield 17 years ago. Ed graduated from Pittsfield High School and served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1964 at Stead Air Force Base. He specialized in helicopter training and air rescue services for Southeast Asia.

After his discharge from the Air Force, Ed studied Political Science at the University of Nevada. When he returned to Massachusetts, he met his wife, Lila, while having coffee at Friendlys.

Among many occupations, Ed worked for a long time as a Railroad Engineer and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, but above all, Edward was a dedicated family man, an avid reader, musician, and advocate for the importance of education.

Edward is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Lila (Fox) Brady; his son, Everett Rhett Brady of Brimfield, his daughter, Lara Kirk and her husband, Tom, of East Longmeadow; his grandchildren, Daniel, Patricia, and Timothy Kirk; and his siblings, Steven Brady of South Carolina, Coleen Brady of New Hampshire, and Philip Brady of Florida.

Family and friends will gather on June 30 at 10am for Committal services with military honors at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. A celebration of his life will be held at Salvatores in Springfield immediately following the services.

Hafey Funeral Service has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s name may be made to the Holyoke Soldiers Home. www.hafeyfuneralservice.com
