Funeral services for Joe Irron Pruett ,USAF SMSSgt. Retired age 79, of gainesville are set for Saturday Jan. 2,2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Geo.J Carroll and Son chapel with the Reverend Nathan Cook of Waco Texas officatng with burial to follow with miltary honors in Fairview cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday Janurary 1, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. til 8:00 p.m. at Geo. J. Carroll and Son Funeral home.

 

Mr. Pruett passed away on December 29, 2009 at Methodist Dallas Medical Center in Dallas Tx. Joe was born on November 27, 1930 in Plano Tx to Steve T. and Ola M. Riggs Pruett and he graduated from Plano High school in Plano Tx and attended Cooke County College in Gainesville Tx. Joe married Ruth Evelyn Nix on July 28, 1956 in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

 

Mr. Pruett served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years ,as a Aircraft / Maintence Superintendent on bombers, tankers, cargo planes and helicopters serving two tours in Korea and one in Vietnam and Stateside. Upon retirement he was employed in the meat market at Scivally's east grocery store.

 

Mr Pruett was a active member of First Baptist Church of Gainesville from 1971 to 1995 and was affiliated with Scottish Rite of Freemasonary and a 50 year Master Mason.

 

Mr. Pruett is survived by his wife of 53 years Ruth Nix Pruett , sons Jerry Kevin Pruett of Denton Tx , David Craig Pruett of Shawnee Ok, brothers Larry Pruett and his wife June of Avery Tx, Arlon Pruett of Star Tx, brother in law and Sister in law Sanford and Debbie Nix of Malvern AR, nephews Ronald and wife Sharon Pruett of El Paso Tx, Alan Nix of Malvern AR, nieces Mary Pruett Douglas and husband Bill of Elm Nott Tx, Joanne Pruett Douglas and husband Ray of Round Rock Tx, Carol Pruett Randolph and husband Joel of Keatchi LA, Sherrie DiSalvio and husband Gerry of Corona CA, Phyllis Pruett Blackwood and husband Larry of Elm Nott Tx and cousins Jackie Riggs and wife Kay of Shady Shores Tx, Jean Barton and husband Floyd of Corpus Christi Tx and C. J. Riggs and wife Jama of Terrell Tx. Joe is preceded in death by his parents Steve T. and Ola M. Riggs Pruett, Grandparents William Ragland " Mack" and Rosie Lee Jones Riggs, Brothers and sisters in law Steve W. Pruett, Louise Pruett, Karen Pruett, Lloyd Pruett, Mary Catherine " Kay' Pruett and Wanda Pruett., Nephews Michael Pruett, Lynol " Butch' Pruett and Danny Pruett, Niece Jean Pruett Parker, Uncle and Aunt Jack and Naomi Riggs and Father-in-law and Mother -in-law Elmo and Myrtie Clifton Nix.

 

Pallbearers will be provived by the Air Force and Honorary Pallbearers will be Richard Hamilton, Arthur Lee Hamilton, Edgar Snoddy, Sherman Turner, Randy Martin, Stanley Withers, Donald Thompson, Paul Ward, Victor Strawbridge, Thurman Scivally and Neil Tibbets.
