CHARLES R. HALL

Final Flight on February 28, 2009

Charles R. Hall, Lt. Colonel USAF (Retired)

April 24, 1934 - February 28, 2009

Lt. Col. Charles R. "Chip" Hall, USAF (Ret.) 76, passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday, Feb. 28.

Vietnam veteran, aviator, athlete, sportsman, teacher, raconteur, craftsman, Dad was a pillar holding up the sky in our world and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him but is now reunited with Mom, who was the love of his life.

A long-time resident of Citrus Heights, California, he recently moved to St. Charles, Missouri, to be near family.

Dad was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, April 24, 1934, and chose a career in the United States Air Force after graduating from Indiana University. He traveled the world for years, flying in service to his country and was a consummate professional at whatever he did, including his second career as an elementary school teacher in Sacramento. He saw combat in Southeast Asia and, finally at rest, has earned the thanks of a grateful nation. His decorations include Distinguished Flying Cross with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster and Air Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster.

He is survived by his three children, Jeffrey Hall (Victoria), of Lemoore, California, Brian Hall (Betsy), of Bradenton, Florida and Kelley Gaines (Howell), of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren Nicholas Hall, Robin Quiroz (Mike), Megan and Molly Hall and Alyssa and Rachel Gaines; and great-grandson Ezekiel Quiroz.

Services: Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, March 7 at the FLANNER AND BUCHANAN Funeral Center, 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana with burial at Washington Park East Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers tax deductible donations be made to the Segs4Vets program which provides Segways to men and women of the US military who have been severely disabled while serving our nation in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Please see www.draft.org for more information.
