Rufus "Rusty" Eugene Hinton, Jr., Major, USAF (Retired)

April 25, 1934 - November 23, 2008


 

HINTON, RUFUS (RUSTY) EUGENE JR., Major (Retired) USAF, loving and devoted husband and father, passed away November 23, 2008 after a hard fought battle with cancer. Born April 25, 1934, in Whigham, GA, to Rufus Eugene Hinton, Sr. and Alice Mae (Myrick) Hinton, he graduated from Brandon High School in 1951 and joined the USAF. He returned to the area in 1990.

 

Rusty loved airplanes and flying and was a long time member of EAA 454 and volunteer at the annual Sun' n Fun Fly In. He was a life member of the Florida Air Museum, VHPAF, BHSAA, MOAA, VFW and DAV. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 64, AFA and Ye Mystic Air Krewe.

 

Rusty is survived by his wife of 26 years, Jeanette (Jan) Hinton, daughters Jeanne (Steve) Valentine, Patti (Dave) Jackson, Kathy (Chuck) Spears, sons Michael (Valerie) Hinton, Gregory (Dinah) Lutz and Kevin Lutz, brothers Earl (Georgia) Hinton and John Wayne Hinton, and sister Faye (Buck) McNatt, and 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

 

His spirit will live on as the memory of his smile, twinkle of his eyes and warmth of his caring touch live on in our hearts and continue to inspire us to emulate his generosity and kindness in our daily lives.

 

Rusty served with the 37th ARRS in 1963 -1965 and 62nd WG (VNAF) Team 6 in 1967-1968.
