I was looking up the crash in Durango of one of our MH-53s. I was on the crew (Medic with my Flt Doc, Dr. Sasaki) as we flew a C-130 up to Durango to conduct our mishap response for this crash. I had just re-enlisted after 9/11 and this accident occurred in Jan. One of the crew members on the MH-53 was a gunner and we became good friends after that accident. We all had lunch near the hospital in Durango at a small restaurant once everybody was cleared - don't remember the name, but they were nice and the food was good. I remember no one said a word for a long while and then one of the pilots cracked a joke and we all laughed. Some great folks flew in the 551st SOS back in those days. Thanks for keeping this history!

I am a writer. I am trying to contact the pilot and crew who carried out a rescue mission in southern Kuwait and took two men to the USS Antietam. (I have already interviewed the Antietam Captain Lawrence Eddingfield but I need a few more details)

I'm amazed, I must say. Seldom do I come across a blog that's both educative and entertaining, and without a doubt, you've hit the nail on the head. The issue is something that too few men and women are speaking intelligently about. Now i'm very happy that I stumbled across this in my hunt for something regarding this. scala bio promise protpo.teswomango.com/map16.php

50 years later, I am still thankful for the courage of all rescue flights. I was extracted from the Quang Tri Citadel, 1May'72, along with the rest of MACV TM155.

A few years back, I found the transcript of radio traffic of that rescue, as published in the Airman's Magazine. Unfortunately, I lost it and can no longer find it online. The PJ's had big brass ones.
Thanx again!!

Scroll down on the left menu to the "Helicopter Time-Line" page and look up the 01 May 1972 date for more information.

Nothing but awe and admiration for the Jolly Green crew members, those up front, and those doing the heavy lifting (and scary stuff) in the back from a former Sandy. Sure was great to have our ride home next to us if things turned to s*^}.

Worked with 37th and 40th ARRS and also 20th SOS Knives and countless H-34s in the Barrel.

That awe and admiration along with deep respect goes back at you. I flew with the 20th HS "Green Hornets" in 67-68 and the 21st SOS "Knifes" in 69-70 and know that more than once you A-1 drivers saved our butts. You, guys would be right down in the tree tops giving the bad guys all sorts of hell.
