Donald R. Damoth, Lt. Col., USAF (Retired)

1934 - April 12, 2014



Donald R. Damoth, 80, of Las Vegas, NV. passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2014, while happily riding his bicycle on the River Mountains Loop Trail in Boulder City.

 

He is survived by his wife Mary Lou of 57 years, his children Becky, Jon and Paul, as well as his grandchildren Austin, Brendon, Julianna, Trevor, and Garrett. He was devoted to Mary Lou, spending much of his time assisting her and making sure she was still doing small adventures, all with the purpose of making her smile.

 

He enjoyed his involvement in the USAF Helicopter Pilot Association as well as camping with dear friends throughout the years.  He especially relished riding his bike; first a mountain bike, then a street bike and finally a recumbent bike on which he made his final ride.  His life was full of adventure and he passed that passion onto his children.  His leadership and friendship will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the USO Warrior Center at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center.

I miss you so much already, Dad. You were such a great Dad and a best friend. I will miss laughing with you. All the memories of our family’s many adventures will help me get through this. You were so involved in our lives. I am so grateful that you died while you were doing something that you loved. Your family is strong because of the leadership you provided and the sense of adventure that you instilled in all of us.

We were at the USAF Helicopter Pilot Reunion in Charleston, SC when we heard of Don’s passing. The word was put out to his many friends there. He was well liked by all in our group. I have known Don since we were Instructors at the USAF Helicopter School in Reno, NV in the 1960’s. We collaborated on building the website (usafhpa.org) for our organization. He was webmaster and I am Historian and we compared many ideas over the past 15 years. Don was a great guy and good friend. Godspeed Don.

My family and I would like to express our deepest sympathy over the loss of Donald. May you find comfort in your loving memories and the warmth of family and friends. A scripture that has uplifted me during times such as this is found at Revelation 21:4. There it describes a time when death and pain will be gone forever after God restores his original purpose for the earth. We will even see our loved ones again who we have lost in death (John 5:28 & 29). It is our hope that these words bring you a measure of comfort during this difficult time as well. Once again, please accept our condolences as you deal with your loss.
