June 22, 1960 - April 03, 2013
Nick D. (Mickey) Burnett, 52, passed away on April 3, 2013 of a heart attack after a long hard fought battle with a chronic brain injury and illnesses, his wife Cynthia and his faithful dog Bowser by his side. He has now gone home to be with God and reunite with Jill Kristine.
Nick was born June 22, 1960 in Peoria, IL to Donald Virgil and Carol Sue Burnett (Fulton). He worked construction before joining the Air Force. Nick served in the Air Force from 1979 to 1992. He served his country with pride and distinction earning many awards and commendations. During his career he achieved what few enlisted men do, he earned his wings and was part of the flight crew on helicopters. He started on Huey H-1P's. He was a member of Search and Rescue during his career in Florida where he received a letter of commendation from Florida Troopers for helping to catch a murder suspect with his fellow crew members. Nick was also a member of 55th Special Operations squadron and flew on Black Hawk helicopters until medical concerns grounded him. Nick's last duty station was Elmendorf AFB where his status changed to Disabled Veteran.
Nick loved Alaska and felt it was "Truly God's Country". He loved to fish and hunt until his health would no longer allow him to. He loved to go on long walks with his constant companion Bowser.
Nick was the person that everyone looked to when there was a problem to be solved; he intuitively knew the path forward and gave selfless love and encouragement to get there. Nick was our family's rock and he will forever be sorely missed and eternally loved.

Nick's wife wrote, "He was the love of my life, soul mate and best friend, he will forever be in my heart." There will be a celebration of life in late May to give family time to come.
