Bob Baldwin (FE) and A1C Kim Robinson (PJ) flying over 600 miles to the rescue site rescued 46 members of television news team which included, 70 year old, famed pioneer aviator and USAF Reserve Brigadier General Charles A. Lindbergh. This news team was investigating reports of a "lost tribe" in the Tasaday Mountains, Mindanao, PI and were stranded on a 3,000 foot jungle ridge line when their support helicopter developed mechanical trouble. Due to conditions on the ground Maj. Ware was not able to land and had to hover out of ground effect with the boarding steps a few feet over the ridge top. Very high temperatures restricted the number that could be picked up at any one time and the HH-3E picked up the entire team by making eight trips, and making two partial air refuelings, to a drop off point about 15 minutes away.  Lindbergh commented that although he had helped to develop in-flight refueling, he had never been aboard an aircraft with it was taking place. Upon landing back at Clark AB the crew had a total elapsed time for the mission of 12 hours, 20 minutes, with a total actual flight time logged of 11 hours, 30 minutes.
